MARESEDU 2019

MARESEDU 2019

From 28 to 31 of October the VIII International Marine Research and Education Conference (MARESEDU – 2019) took place, and members of our team have visited it with two oral, and five poster presentations (full list of presentations is at the bottom). It is possible that we haven’t done this many presentations at a single conference, including those held in Saint-Petersburg. The conference’s location was P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanography, which received us the last time as well.

The conference lasted for almost a week, and there were different kinds of presentations – plenary, oral and poster. Also a couple of round tables were organized. Less than a half of all presentations were on biology, other themes were oceanology, sea geology, sustainable nature management, hydrology.

Modern technologies were used in some presentations, for example Skype. During the Skype presentation the multimedia projector wasn’t powerful enough, so the organizers had to get creative – they had to put the microphone near the projector itself, and stand like this for the duration of the whole presentation. So, the organizers didn’t spare themselves, and so the conference’s organization was at the very high level.

For Ekaterina Nadtochii her oral presentation was her debut at the scientific conferences – congratulations!

Also, within the conference a competition of short films on the conference’s theme was held. Pavel Glazkov presented a five-minute long video (a teaser of a longer movie which is planned to be released at the beginning of the next year) “The wasp waist” of White Sea ecosystem” about our project, which Pavel and his team had filmed at the ERS “Belomorskaia” during summer of 2019. Our film made the audience very interested, and after the showing Pavel answered their questions for a long time.

The trip was funded by our grants RFBR and RSF.
